Hi, I'm Tajikistan High school graduate. I want to study medicine in Germany. To explain more clearly my situation let me tell about my *my self. * About myself I just can say that I'm a member of Tajikistan international chemistry Olympiad team and GPA verifies from 4.8 to 5 (in our country max GPA is 5).
1.)I need info about med schools admission to German med schools. And can any1 say which med school is the best in Germany?
By the way I don't know German, as I know to be admitted to German med school you should know fluent German. From my own experience(I can talk in 5 languages) I know that it will be more effective to study German in Germany. So could anyone give me information about German prep course at German universities, which not private... (I mean cost, life condition and etc.).
Please help me!!!!

Hello and welcome!

There is no "best" med school in Germany because there are nationwide study regulations to be followed by all med schools. Choose your region according to rents, leisure time facilities, etc.

As a non-EU citizen you have to send your application directly to the universities (whereas Germans and other EU citizens use a centralised service which distributes the applicants to the different med schools according to certain criteria). There is a fee-based application service for international students that you can have a look at: http://www.uni-assist.de/index_en.html

The Goethe-Institut (http://www.goethe.de/enindex.htm) is the official language teaching institution but there are alternatives as well. Once you have reached a certain level of fluency (level B1 CEFR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languag es) after approx. 400-600 lessons) you can try to be admitted to a Studienkolleg (http://www.studienkollegs.de/en/) for further university entrance preparations.

Good luck!

The Volkshochschulen offer subsidised integration courses, e.g. in Berlin (http://www.berlin.de/ba-mitte/city-vhs/lehrangebot/intro/pb41/deutsch.html): 150 € per 100 lessons.

you could come here as an aupair to learn German. Some universities also offer prepcourses for German as a foreign language. I would chose the university according to your field of interest. Medical Universities have specific strengths in certain fields such as specialized hospitals and centers or in research"clusters of excellence".

what does aupair mean?

Au-pairs are people who go to the country of their choice, to take care of the children of a family; and also get some work done in the house hold.

Of course this would help you to learn the basic skills for German conversation, but taking classes would probably be more effective :)

As a Taijikistan graduate, I think you have 11 years there? Then you have to complete a Studienkolleg- year, where you also will get intensive german lessons. So you will probably have to do 1 year of german studies and 1 year studienkolleg before you can study, but you can do both there, and it can be shortened if you are good.

This is for example the link from the centre in heidelberg: http://www.isz.uni-heidelberg.de/e_index.html

There are also other similar centres in Germany...I think Marburg has one as well, and Berlin too.

Good luck!

P.S to get accepted into the studienkolleg should be relatively easy, especially with your grades. The medical schools look then at the final grades of the studienkolleg, but I know people, who also got a place in medical schools with a final grade of 2.0 (with 1.0 being the highest)

I have many friends from Post-Soviet countries. Your High school is only for 11 years, in germany it is 12 years. You have to do that one year in Germany in order to get the equivalent of Abitur. Universities like Heidelberg have special colleges, where international students can do that one additional year of studies.

The college is in german, and I do think you can study german there first, and then take the preparation year. For additional infos, I would recommend you to read through the page, and write an email or call to the Studienkolleg - I am sure they will be really happy to help you out!

It might be of course, that you will have to study German first in your home country - I am not sure about that.

Another good site for information is www.daad.de.

Probably you better ask her, she seems to be in charge with international applicants interested in admission to the University of Heidelberg.

Depends on your performance in the preparatory course (as a replacement for the german Abitur). If you should already have a Qualification, which is considered substantially equivalent to the german Abitur, such as (UK) A- Levels or the IB, this will be your entry into University.

Anyhow, since there is a special reserved admission quota for foreigners (yes!) in german Universities, you will not have to compete with all the other german school leavers for places. Therefore Admission will not be too terribly competetive for you and chances should be quite good.
