Dear colleagues

Is it possible for a foreign general practitioner to study one of the "Zusatz-Weiterbildungen" like Allergologie or Naturheilverfahren in Germany without becoming a medical specialist(Facharzt) there?

Many thanks in advance

I think so because the former "Praktischer Arzt" was allowed to do that. The actual German GP (Facharzt für Allgemeinmedizin) is a medical specialist, however.
Nevertheless you should ask the Landesärztekammer of the federal state where you are going to work.

By the way ...
Those "Zusatzweiterbildung" is not being STUDIED.

You don't do that at a university or a college or something like that.
When aiming at getting such a certficiate, you work in a clinic or a doctor's surgery. It's a specialised clinic (or department of a clinic) or a specialised doctor.
While there, you are supervised and instructed to learn everything you need to know.

Sometimes, there are some classes to attend, but you are - at any time - not attending university.

It's more like a professional training.

Well, to complete the nitpicking...
For nearly every Zusatzweiterbildung you have to attend a class and to pass an exam. Only then you will get a "Zusatzbezeichnung" (some call it "Gelddruckmaschine der Ärztekammern"). The medical societies or the "Landesärztekammern" usually offer these courses but not the universities, however.

Thank you Kyutrexx and Evil.
FYI : they told me that I should be a medical specialist to be able to specialize in one of those additional training courses :(

By specialist, they probably mean "Facharzt".

Makes sense- for some Zusatzweiterbildungen, you have to be Facharzt to get the certificate.

But every Landesärztekammer has its own rules. Look for the Weiterbildungsordnung on their homepage- there you will find the requirements for every Facharzt and Zusatzweiterbildung.

Yes,definitely they meant Facharzt.
@WackenDoc: I've read the Bundesarztekammer Weiterbildungsordnung 2003 too and it says the same thing.

You don't have to be a Facharzt to acquire the following Zusatzbezeichnungen (in Bavaria):

Ärztliches Qualitätsmanagement, Akupunktur, Betriebsmedizin, Homöopathie, Intensivmedizin, Manuelle Medizin/Chirotherapie, Medizinische Informatik, Naturheilverfahren, Notfallmedizin, Palliativmedizin, Physikalische Therapie und Balneologie, Psychoanalyse, Psychotherapie, Sozialmedizin, Sportmedizin, Suchtmedizinische Grundversorgung.

and I agree with you that it makes sense for some of the additional training courses. Should I still check every Landesärztekammer website?

Many thanks for sharing it dear SuperSonic.

Could you please tell me what I should do to study one of my favorite Zusatzweiterbildungen?
Should I send an email to a professor in the field? Is the process the same as applying for Weiterbildungen?
(Learning German, Taking the medical knowledge test for approbation, Finding a job)
Any websites that you recommend?

Maybe you should contact the German College of General Practitioners and Family Physicians, DEGAM (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Allgemein- und Familienmedizin) http://www.degam.de/

By the way, what kind of specialisation do you prefer and where are do you want to live? Southern Germany? Eastern Germany?

I like Naturheilverfahren and Sportmedizin.
Well,I'm not sure where to live right now because I should look for other possible options and then decide.(I mean other states that have the same regulations as Bavaria)
Your country has a beautiful nature overall but my friends have recommended Western Germany to me.
Do you know why? What's your opinion Evil?

I like Allergologie too but it seems you can't study it as a GP.

In this list you find all Zusatzweiterbildungen in Niedersachsen and the requirements:
https://www.aekn.de/weiterbildung/weiterbildungsordnung-1/weiterbildungsordnung-gueltig-ab-1-februar-2013/zusaetzliche-weiterbildungen-und-zusatzbezeichnungen/

So you can do Allergologie as a GP- but you need your Facharzt to finish the training (same for Sportmedizin and Naturheilverfahren)

So you are not bound to any special location? I'd say it's a matter of taste... do you prefer hills and mountains? Or lowlands? The sea? Do you like urban regions or rather countryside with a rich history?
Of course some regions have disadvantages (e.g. high rate of unemployment, funny dialect, ...) but in general you can find a fine location anywhere.

Many thanks dear WackenDoc but how do you say you can do the additional trainings as a GP?!
I checked the link ; they all required board certification.(being a Facharzt)
