good day everyone!!!
I am an Indian citizen and I graduated medical school from Ukraine in 2013.
I wish to do my specialization in Germany in Neurosurgery/Endocrinology
I was wondering if someone can guide me through the process
Someone who actually got the place or knows the process as whole
I have started learning German !
thanks in advance

Seriously? Good luck & welcome to Germany...

BTW: Which 'process' do you mean specifically? The application process for one of your mentioned residencies, the accreditation of your 'credentials' from abroad?

Hi Sunil,

first of all, you need to speak reasonable German to practice here. I think most medical boards require at least B2, which does take a while to get to if you have no previous knowledge of the language.

Once your German is up to scratch, I think it will be quite difficult to go into Neurosurgery or Endocrinology straight away, especially in the big cities. However, for Neurosurg you can do up to one year of (general) surgery and it counts towards your qualification, and for endocrinology, you can do two (?) years of (general) internal med. So this is where I would start, especially in smaller towns they are desperate for junior doctors and will gladly accept you. Once you have gotten used to the German hospital system and you have references from (German) departments, it will make it much easier to apply for endo or neurosurg residency programs. Somewhere down the line, you will have to take an exam as well to show that you are "similarly qualified" to German medical graduates, but this should be doable.

Good luck!
