House of God and Mount Misery - Samuel Shem
The Cronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
And my absolute favourite books: The Tomorrow series from John Mardsen, unfortunately only available in Australia, at least the last two books.
Most books are better in the original language. Not just english books..
Really love books of Mary Higgins Clark and Patricia Cornwell.
At the moment I read "Keeping you a secret" by Julie Peters. However, I'm not yet convinced.
Hey, I'd like to recommend a book to you which is for all the people who like travelling abroad or those who want to work in the helath care system in England, France or the US. Of course, it will be interesting for the ones staying in Germany, too. My advice is to read this book:
„Andere Länder, andere Leiden" written by Lynn Payer.
You might think that it is a little bit old since it is from 1993. But I've been told by the one who gave it to me as a christmas present last year
that it is the best book to read if one wants to learn about the differences between english, french, american and german patients and doctors.
It showed me a new dimension about the countries, their habitants, their medical system and also about our german medicine. It was a lot of fun to hear about the different beliefs of being sick...
Have fun!
For those of you, who liked "The Catcher in the Rye" I've got another literary delicacy ....
"The Buddha of Suburbia" by Hanif Kureishi. This novel tells the story of a youngster coping with some typical and a lot of absolutely weird problems. Very funny, emotional, loud and colourful. You won't miss a thing, sex-drugs-rock'n'roll-conflicts-colours-self-doubt-everything
Besides....I wrote my final English test on a chapter of this novel and had to compare the protagonist Karim to Salinger's Holden Caulfield....it was a masterpiece because I just love these stories of weirdos and, well, I have a soft spot for these guys
